Venugopal's journey from medication to marathon

You did not just help me lower my cholesterol; you reshaped my entire life, redefined my boundaries, and turned a struggling person with health issues into an ultra-marathoner.

The darkest hour

The second wave of COVID-19 left Venugopal with a body that no longer felt like his own. Every breath was a small battle; persistent gastric issues turned ordinary days into endurance tests; and his cholesterol had spiked to dangerous heights. What happened next changed the trajectory of his life: rather than prescribing a lifetime of medication, his doctor offered something far more demanding — a challenge. Change your lifestyle. Start moving. Fight your way back.

First faltering steps

Recovery began with a walk — tentative, uncertain, often uncomfortable. Soon after, he found his way to MWC Runners Club. In those earliest days, running even a few metres felt less like exercise and more like defiance. His lungs burned. There was no finish line in sight, only the next few steps.

What changed everything wasn't a training plan or gear. It was people. The members didn't simply teach him how to run — they stood beside him when running felt impossible, offering technique where he lacked it, confidence where he had none, and belief in a finish line he couldn't yet see.

The breakthrough

Slowly, distance by distance, his limits dissolved: a first half marathon that once seemed unimaginable. A grueling 20-miler. The finish line of a full marathon, years in the making. And then past what even he thought possible — a 56 km ultra marathon.

Each milestone was proof that the man who once struggled to breathe had rebuilt himself, one run at a time.

Paying it forward

Today, running isn't something Venugopal does — it's who he is. When the club launched its Sunday Trailblazer Run, he became a motivator, inspiring his own family to lace up and join, week after week. Tuesday strength sessions rebuilt the physical foundation beneath his resilience, and the club's yoga sessions brought something running alone couldn't: stillness, mindfulness, and a sharper focus that has spilled into every corner of his life.
